1. A few random thoughts on this Friday

I almost got wiped out from a falling brick yesterday. I was making my way towards the cash register at The Container Store yesterday, innocently buying some file boxes. All of the sudden, a GIANT BRICK falls from the 50-foot ceiling, smashing into pieces on the floor. I had literally walked across that area 10 seconds prior. I think it would have killed a person, and that person was almost me. Us shoppers were terrified, but the staff seemed nonplussed. That would have been my second wrong place/wrong time head injury (or death, as the case could have been).

Speaking of wrong place/wrong time, have you all been watching the Real HW of NYC reunion specials? I realized that all these women are awful, the only one I actually liked was Bethenny and she’s gone. My absolute LEAST favorite, by far, is Kelly Bensimon. She’s got the maturity and intelligence of an 11-year-old. Calling someone “weird” isn’t a valid argument, no matter how weird they actually are.

It’s such a hopeful sight to see once-sick sea lions heading back out to sea after recuperating. At least some people are doing their part to make this world better for other animals than humans. And just look at them strut!

These two were once pen pals as kids. Now they’re engaged. We were just talking this morning about how people give second-chance love extra meaning. When you knew someone once before, or were first-loves, or found each other after many years, it has more emphasis. I know cases where this has made the love stronger, and some where the people never actually grew and changed since the first time, and so it didn’t last. After 5 months of dating and now an engagement, I would imagine Mumford and Mulligan feel the strength of second chance. I hope it lasts (because 5 months is nothing).

See that wall color? I’m painting a bookshelf that color this weekend, and hopefully adding a fun wallpaper to the backing of each shelf. When I went to the DeYoung for the Post-Impressionist exhibit many months back, I was completely taken with the color on the walls. My boo made contact with one of the directors of the museum and found out the color was Benjamin Moore’s Old Navy. Now I can finally have a splash of this beautiful hue in our home.

Nectarines are delicious right now. I’m planning on grilling them and eating them with burrata and toast and fresh greens. Get your hands on some stone fruit friends!

This week’s drizzle and fog has got me down. Luckily we in San Francisco can look forward to Indian Summer in September. And a little bad weather can’t get me down when it’s Friday! Where’s the Sparkling Rose?
